Samsung Bioepis announced Tuesday that it signed an agreement with Seoul National University's College of Pharmacy on Monday to run an "Electronic Research Notebook Competition" aimed at nurturing future pharmaceutical and bio talent. The agreement marks the first case of Samsung Bioepis introducing electronic research notebooks in its industry-academia cooperation activities. The company plans to focus on transferring research know-how suited to the digital artificial intelligence (AI) era.
Through the agreement, Samsung Bioepis and Seoul National University will jointly operate the competition for pharmacy undergraduate students over the next five years and cooperate to identify outstanding research cases and spread the culture of research notebook documentation. "Research notebooks are a key means of maintaining research continuity and protecting achievements," a Samsung Bioepis official said. "Since they are used as a tool to prove the credibility of research when publishing papers in academic journals, it is important for students to learn proper research notebook writing methods from their undergraduate years."
Through such industry-academia cooperation activities, the two sides plan to continuously strengthen the competitiveness of pharmaceutical and bio talent. "We will strengthen industry-academia cooperation activities that spread global-level research and development know-how to universities, contributing to securing and nurturing outstanding talent for the pharmaceutical and bio industry at an early stage," Samsung Bioepis President Kim Kyung-ah, who attended the signing ceremony, said. Kang Geon-wook, dean of Seoul National University's College of Pharmacy, said, "The know-how of a world-class biosimilar developer will be applied to university research sites, providing an opportunity for students to grow into talents with global competitiveness."
Meanwhile, Samsung Bioepis has signed research notebook competition agreements with seven universities nationwide since 2015, including Korea University, Pusan National University, Sungkyunkwan University, Yonsei University, Chonnam National University, KAIST, and POSTECH. The company continues to pursue industry-academia cooperation activities to spread biopharmaceutical research and development capabilities.
