
Artificial intelligence competition is heating up in the robot vacuum market. Dyson, known as a leader in cordless vacuums, joined the race in January this year with the launch of its "Spot+Scrub Ai" robot vacuum, accelerating the competition. The product puts AI technology at the forefront. After using it for two weeks, the experience could be summed up in one phrase: "Dyson delivers as expected."
Cleaning can be started through the My Dyson app. When I pressed the "Start" button in the app, the robot vacuum began moving while emitting a blue beam. When a green light illuminates the floor, AI identifies debris and detects hidden stains. An 18,000-pascal (Pa) motor sucks up fine dust and household dust. Side brushes on both sides rotate to sweep around wall corners and furniture legs.
The most striking feature was its obstacle recognition. When the robot vacuum encountered an obstacle, instead of forcefully bumping into it, it continued cleaning while staying as close as possible. Twenty-four sensors and dual laser LiDAR scan the surroundings seven times per second, mapping the space in real time. Even shaded narrow gaps, such as under a living room cabinet, were not mistaken for obstacles, and the device went inside to clean.
The next impressive feature was wet cleaning. Typically, wet cleaning requires soaking, wiping, washing, and drying a mop — a time-consuming and laborious process. Even when using a mop, stubborn stains often remain.

The Dyson Spot+Scrub Ai handles all of these steps on its own. When it detects stubborn stains, it cleans them repeatedly up to 15 times. It even rechecks whether debris has been removed before moving to the next stage. The roller is washed with water heated to 60 degrees Celsius, and once cleaning is complete, it is dried with 45-degree hot air. This effectively prevents the damp conditions in which bacteria can breed.
The Cyclone docking station automatically handles everything from emptying dust to washing the roller, refilling water, and recharging. A single charge provides up to 200 minutes of use.

The AI mapping function was also practical. When first activated, it travels throughout the entire home to create a map. Once the learning is complete, users can clean specific zones separately. Vacuuming, wet cleaning, and the number of cleaning passes can all be configured through the My Dyson app. While on a business trip in a regional city, I tried running the device through the app, and it navigated the home on its own to clean the floors. The cleaning path could be monitored, allowing me to visually confirm that it was operating properly.
There were some drawbacks, however. The robot vacuum weighs 6.6 kilograms and the docking station 9 kilograms, making the process of unboxing and installing them difficult. To address this, Dyson offers a free installation service to customers who purchase the product. More than 60 percent of buyers reportedly use this service, with high levels of satisfaction.
