Korean Air (003490.KS) has been elected as the chair airline of SkyTeam's Safety, Security and Quality (SSQ) advisory group, the airline said Wednesday.
Bennet Allen Walsh, head of Korean Air's Aviation Safety and Security Division, will serve as chair of the SSQ subcommittee for the next two years.
The SSQ chair airline advises SkyTeam member carriers on safety, security, and quality policies applied across the alliance, drawing on its expertise and extensive operational experience. The role aims to elevate safety and security standards across the global aviation industry, with SkyTeam member airlines at the center of the effort.
Korean Air plans to work with the SkyTeam Board of Governors to set the agenda on key aviation safety issues and strengthen cooperation among member airlines by sharing best practices to maximize synergy. The carrier will focus in particular on reinforcing international standards related to the in-flight use of portable batteries, an issue that has drawn global attention, and on standardizing SkyTeam's emergency response plan, which defines the emergency procedures airlines must follow in crisis situations.
"This will serve as an opportunity to solidify Korean Air's influence and standing within SkyTeam and to secure a broad foundation for cooperation among member airlines, further enhancing Korean Air's global competitiveness," a Korean Air official said.
