Taihan Cable & Solution has won an order for extra-high voltage subsea cables, demonstrating its turnkey capabilities spanning production to installation. Through its first collaborative project with subsidiary Taihan Oceanworks, the company plans to fully leverage value chain integration synergies in the subsea cable business.
Taihan Cable announced Thursday that it will supply 154kV extra-high voltage subsea cables for a solar power project in Sinan County, South Jeolla Province. The grid connection project will transmit electricity generated at the Sinan Bigeum solar power plant and Dogo floating solar plant to the Anjwado substation. Taihan Cable will supply subsea cables and accessories to Top Solar Group, which is responsible for the overall plant engineering, procurement and construction (EPC), and will also handle the installation.
This marks the first collaboration with Taihan Oceanworks, a subsidiary specializing in subsea cable installation. Under the arrangement, Taihan Cable will produce the cables at its No. 1 subsea cable plant in Dangjin, South Chungcheong Province, while Taihan Oceanworks, acquired in July last year, will handle transport and laying. The aim is to establish in the market a total solution encompassing production, transport and installation.
Taihan Cable, which has recently secured major orders including the Yeonggwang Nakwol project, is strengthening its position after being selected as a leading operator in the government's supply chain stabilization program. The company is currently building a second subsea plant to produce 640kV high-voltage direct current (HVDC) subsea cables and is also considering adding more cable-laying vessels.
"As this is our first collaboration with our subsidiary, we will focus our companywide capabilities on successful execution," a Taihan Cable official said. "Armed with proven technology and installation capabilities, we will target large-scale domestic and overseas projects such as the 'West Coast Energy Highway' and leap forward as a total solution provider in the global subsea cable market."
