LIG Defense & Aerospace (LIG D&A) has secured its first export deal for the Haegung, a ship-defense guided missile system.
LIG D&A said it signed an export contract with Malaysia's Ministry of Defense for the Haegung at DSA 2026, a defense industry exhibition held in Kuala Lumpur, on Wednesday local time. The deal, valued at $94 million (about 140 billion won), marks the first contract between LIG D&A and the Malaysian defense ministry.
The Haegung is a defense guided missile designed to counter a range of threats, including aircraft targeting naval vessels. It was independently developed using domestic technology starting in 2011, led by the Agency for Defense Development with LIG D&A's participation. The missile boasts high accuracy through the application of a radio frequency (RF) radar sensor, infrared imaging, and a dual-mode seeker.
The Haegung units covered by the export deal will be mounted on Malaysian Navy coastal patrol vessels built by Turkish defense firm STM.
Building on this contract, LIG D&A plans to continue presenting its multi-layered integrated air defense solutions to Southeast Asia and global markets.
"We will accelerate the construction of the 'K-Air Defense Belt' through exports of the short-range ship-to-air guided missile Haegung and the mid-range surface-to-air guided missile Cheongung-II," a company official said.
