Korean Air (003490.KS) said Monday it hosted a joint labor-management "Hanmaum Festa" to mark the 62nd anniversary of its labor union's founding.
The event, held Saturday at the Gyeyang Asiad Archery Field in Gyeyang-gu, Incheon, was held under the slogan "One Sky, One Family." About 5,000 employees and family members from Korean Air and Asiana Airlines (020560.KS) attended.
In his congratulatory address, Vice Chairman Woo Ki-hong said, "If all employees of Korean Air and Asiana Airlines unite as one and if labor and management trust and cooperate with each other for mutual prosperity, the integrated Korean Air will be able to establish itself as the world's most beloved airline based on absolute safety and the highest level of service."
The Hanmaum Festa is held annually to further strengthen the culture of labor-management coexistence and harmony. With the full integration with Asiana Airlines approaching this year, the event was expanded, with about 1,000 more participants than last year. The event featured team competitions and talent shows in which Korean Air and Asiana Airlines employees participated together.
The origin of the Korean Air labor union dates back to the aviation branch of the National Federation of Labor Unions, which was launched in 1965 during the Korean Air Lines Corporation era. After the union was privatized following the establishment of Korean Air in 1969, it marked its 62nd anniversary this year.
