Jeil Pharmaceutical (271980.KQ) announced Wednesday that its new gastroesophageal reflux disease treatment Jakubo recorded 21.2 billion won in prescriptions in the first quarter of this year, a 217.6% increase from the same period last year.
According to pharmaceutical research firm Ubist, Jakubo's prescription value grew 3.17-fold from 6.68 billion won in Q1 last year to 21.22 billion won in Q1 this year.
Monthly growth has also been notable. Jakubo's outpatient prescription value in March reached 7.99 billion won, the highest since its launch. Based on Q1 prescription value, the drug climbed 93 spots from the previous quarter to rank 19th among domestic pharmaceuticals, raising the possibility of entering blockbuster drug status.
The growth is attributed to product competitiveness based on clinical data and sales and marketing synergy. Jeil Pharmaceutical strengthened its market approach leveraging accumulated sales capabilities in the gastroenterology field, while accelerating sales expansion through a co-promotion partnership with Dong-A ST, which has strengths in marketing non-PPI gastrointestinal treatments.
"Additional indication trials for Jakubo are currently progressing successfully, and clinical results proving Jakubo's excellent efficacy will be released," a Jeil Pharmaceutical official said.
