Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) announced Wednesday that it is publicly recruiting the inaugural CEO for KEPCO Tech Holdings, set to launch in June, with applications accepted until February 4.
KEPCO Tech Holdings is an energy-focused technology commercialization and investment company that will combine promising new energy technologies held by KEPCO and public institutions with private sector innovation capabilities to support startups and commercialization while connecting technology with funding.
Through KEPCO Tech Holdings, KEPCO plans to expand the transfer of its technologies to the private sector, nurture companies through mutual growth programs, and jointly develop overseas business opportunities in phases. The company aims to systematically support the entire corporate growth cycle from startup to commercialization, investment, and global expansion, positioning KEPCO Tech Holdings as a key hub for building a new energy industry ecosystem.
"In the midst of the global energy transition accelerated by artificial intelligence and electrification, new technologies and businesses are emerging explosively," said KEPCO CEO Kim Dong-chul. "With cumulative investment in the energy sector alone projected to reach approximately 31 quadrillion won by 2050, the energy industry is a core future industry that will create enormous added value."
"While 118 energy unicorn companies have emerged globally, not a single one exists in Korea — that is our reality," Kim said. "KEPCO Tech Holdings will serve as a catalyst to overcome this gap and capture the global market."
