Korea's beauty industry is accelerating product development efficiency by expanding the adoption of artificial intelligence. As the time required across the entire process—from raw material discovery to formula design and production—has been dramatically reduced, the industry's competitive landscape is rapidly shifting from quality-focused to speed-focused.
Kolmar Korea (161890.KS), a cosmetics ODM (original design manufacturing) company, reorganized its Convergence Technology Research Institute at the end of last year and established an "AI & Innovation Team." The move is seen as an effort to strengthen capabilities as AI-integrated product development expands, including "Kaiome," a platform providing customized solutions through skin diagnosis, and the "Scar Beauty Device," which addresses wound treatment and makeup coverage in a single device.
The company's recently introduced AI-based customized formula design system analyzes various variables including climate, skin condition, and UV exposure based on extensive user data to derive optimal ingredient combinations. Since implementing this system, the formula design period—which previously required researchers to conduct repeated experiments over several months—has been reduced to one-third.
