HD Hyundai Construction Equipment (267270.KS) is launching full-scale cooperation with Hyundai Engineering & Construction (000720.KS) to develop smart safety technologies for safer construction sites.

HD Hyundai Construction Equipment said Monday that it signed a memorandum of understanding with Hyundai E&C at the latter's headquarters in Jongno-gu, Seoul, for the joint development and application of smart safety technologies for construction machinery.

The agreement was pursued to strengthen safety management capabilities centered on construction equipment and build a sustainable cooperation framework, drawing on both companies' technological expertise and on-site operational experience.

The two companies will cooperate on supplying construction machinery including excavators equipped with smart safety technology, conducting technical consultations and standardization efforts to incorporate safety devices from the manufacturing stage, and verifying and validating construction equipment fitted with smart safety systems.

HD Hyundai Construction Equipment will supply advanced safety sensors and modules to be installed on existing construction equipment that Hyundai E&C operates at work sites. These include the Smart Around View Monitor (SAVM), which uses AI-based cameras to detect people near equipment and issue warnings, and the Overload Warning Device (OWD), which measures the weight of lifted objects and the equipment's tilt angle in real time to alert operators before the machine loses balance and tips over.

Starting in the second half of this year, the company will sequentially deliver smart excavators incorporating next-generation safety technologies to construction sites. The smart excavators will be equipped with advanced safety features including a collision warning and automatic stop (E-STOP) function and a Virtual Wall system that prevents equipment from crossing a preset virtual boundary even in the event of operator error.

"Through this partnership, we will continue to expand the deployment of AI-based safety solutions and smart construction equipment, and enhance practical safety at construction sites," said Choi Tae-geun, executive vice president and head of HD Hyundai Construction Equipment's construction equipment sales division.
