Jeju Air (089590.KQ), a Korean low-cost carrier, said Monday it has launched a waitlist booking service that gives passengers a chance to secure seats on sold-out flights. The move aims to enhance booking convenience.
Passengers unable to find seats on fully booked flights can apply for waitlist booking by logging into the airline's website or mobile app. Applicants can check their waitlist position in real time and will receive confirmation via notification message, text and email once a seat becomes available.
Waitlist bookings are available for one-way tickets only, excluding Biz Lite seats. Customers who receive a waitlist confirmation for international flights must complete payment by 11 p.m. the following day.
For domestic flights, payment deadlines vary depending on when the confirmation is issued.
Customers confirmed between 11 p.m. the previous day and before noon on the day of notification must pay by 3 p.m. that day. Those confirmed between noon and 11 p.m. must complete payment by 10 a.m. the next day. If payment is not made within the deadline, the opportunity automatically passes to the next customer in line.
To ensure fair use of the service, each member ID is limited to a maximum of six waitlist requests, with up to nine passengers per request. When only one seat opens from a cancellation, priority is given to customers who registered a waitlist for a single passenger rather than groups of two or more.
Along with the launch of the waitlist service for members, Jeju Air has filed a patent for a system that automatically confirms waitlist bookings in real time when cancellation seats become available through its own channels.
"In an era where time is an asset, the core of this service is allowing customers to directly apply for a waitlist and check their position without repeatedly refreshing the page or contacting the call center," a Jeju Air official said.
