Samsung Heavy Industries (010140.KS) said Thursday it secured an order for two eco-friendly very large gas carriers (VLGCs) worth 342 billion won ($249 million) from a Bermuda-based shipping company.
The vessels are capable of carrying liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and ammonia, with delivery scheduled by May 2029.
Samsung Heavy Industries' order intake this year stands at $3.1 billion (16 vessels), achieving 22% of its annual order target of $13.9 billion.
By vessel type, the orders comprise six liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers, two very large ethane carriers (VLECs), two VLGCs, two container ships and four crude oil carriers.
"While continuing to secure LNG carrier orders, we are expanding our eco-friendly gas carrier lineup including ethane carriers and gas carriers, enhancing technological synergies across vessel types," a Samsung Heavy Industries official said.
