Coupang Eats Service (CES) announced Sunday that it has launched a "Companion Project" with the National Merchants Association to revitalize traditional markets, and will proactively provide eco-friendly bags to traditional market vendors as part of the initiative.
The Companion Project aims to enhance the competitiveness of traditional markets and promote sustainable growth through multi-faceted support including expanding online sales channels. The project builds on a "Traditional Market Mutual Growth Agreement" signed by the two organizations last year, with the goal of expanding practical support.
Coupang Eats will extend its promotion waiving packaging service brokerage fees for traditional market stores by one year through March of next year. Traditional market stores nationwide can apply through the National Merchants Association or register directly with Coupang Eats for support.
Considering the difficulties traditional market vendors face in securing packaging materials amid the recent global energy crisis, CES will also proactively provide approximately 600,000 eco-friendly bags. The bags will be distributed sequentially to traditional market vendors nationwide who need packaging material support through the National Merchants Association. Coupang had previously provided approximately 300,000 eco-friendly packaging containers to markets including Jinju Jungang Market in Gyeongsang Province and Cheongnyangni General Market in Seoul.
"We will actively align with the government's price stabilization policy to offer customers reasonable consumption opportunities and serve as a stepping stone to draw foot traffic to traditional markets, easing the burden on vendors," said Kim Myung-gyu, CEO of Coupang Eats Service.
