CJ Logistics, South Korea's largest logistics company, announced Sunday that it will jointly develop a smart indoor positioning system (LED·IPS)-based worker location tracking technology in partnership with EMS solution provider Merlo Lab.
The core of the technology lies in analyzing workers' locations and movement paths using Internet of Things (IoT) sensors attached to lighting infrastructure. Under the agreement, CJ Logistics will provide its logistics centers as technology verification spaces and analyze data on workers' movement routes and access to hazardous zones to apply the findings to logistics center operations. Merlo Lab will build equipment combining location recognition functions with smart LED lighting, along with an IoT sensor system. The company will also provide end-to-end technical support from on-site installation to operations, enabling real-time tracking of worker positions to detect dangerous situations in advance.
CJ Logistics expects the smart LED technology to deliver improvements in both safety and efficiency. The company's analysis suggests that by identifying high-traffic points through worker location data and applying those insights to product placement and workflow routing, it can create a safer and more efficient operating environment.
CJ Logistics plans to verify the technology's accuracy and field applicability through testbed operations before pursuing integration with its logistics management systems and further technology advancement. Based on the results, the company intends to gradually expand the scope of application toward building smart logistics centers.
