
LG Display (034220) announced on the 22nd that it will begin mass production of the world's first LCD panel for laptops featuring 'Oxide 1 Hertz (Hz)' technology.
The Oxide 1Hz panel is the latest technology that automatically adjusts refresh rates from 1Hz to up to 120Hz based on the user's laptop usage environment.
Refresh rate refers to the number of times a screen is redrawn per second. Higher refresh rates reduce flickering and provide smoother, clearer images. However, maintaining high refresh rates on static screens wastes significant power by continuously regenerating the same image.
LG Display's Oxide 1Hz panel, the world's first to enter mass production, flexibly adjusts refresh frequency according to screen changes, enabling efficient power management.
When the screen is static for activities such as reading emails or e-books, the panel operates in minimum 1Hz refresh rate mode. When users move the mouse or engage in activities with frequent screen changes such as movies or sports broadcasts, it automatically switches to maximum 120Hz high refresh rate mode to deliver optimal visuals.
LG Display reported that applying this technology increased laptop battery life by more than 48% compared to conventional panels. Panels with Oxide 1Hz technology will initially be supplied to Dell's premium 'XPS' lineup.
LG Display plans to apply Oxide 1Hz technology to OLED panels as well, with mass production scheduled for 2027.
