Fashion platform 29CM, operated by Musinsa, announced Monday that the 'open bag' style—carrying bags unzipped or with flaps unfastened—is emerging as a key spring trend.
The open bag look, also known as 'undone style,' involves wearing bags with zippers partially open or flaps unsecured for a casual aesthetic. As the trend spreads, more bags are being designed with magnetic closures or one-touch fasteners that maintain their shape even when left open.
According to 29CM's sales data from March 1-15, shoulder bag category transactions rose 46% year-over-year. Demand grew particularly for products with structures suited to the open-carry style.
By brand, Yeomim's 'Belted Boat Bag' saw transactions surge 237% over the 15-day period compared to the previous month, while Loeuvre's 'Vine Shoulder Bag' jumped 251% during the same period. Partang's 'Mio Bag' recorded its 12th reorder within one month of launch, establishing itself as a hit product.
The trend is also influencing product development. Women's accessories brand 'I Beg Your Pardon' exclusively launched its 'Smile Collection' on 29CM in collaboration with actress Chae Jung-an, featuring shoulder bags with front flaps designed to drape naturally in a U-shape.
To meet spring season demand, 29CM is running a daily bag promotional event with fashion YouTuber Bora Claire through March 25, offering up to 30% discounts on 10 spring bag styles curated by the influencer.
"As the open bag style that originated at global fashion weeks spreads, domestic designer brands are actively incorporating related designs and styling," a 29CM spokesperson said.
