SR, the operator of SRT high-speed rail, announced on the 12th that it will launch "Tuntun Bear" on the 13th, an upcycled teddy bear made from employee uniforms dating back to the rail service's inauguration.
Tuntun Bear is the third product in SRT's uniform upcycling merchandise line. The company partnered with social enterprises Koiro and Touch4Good to transform uniforms that served passengers safely for 10 years into teddy bears.
A portion of the sales proceeds will be donated to the pediatric ward at Samsung Seoul Hospital. The initiative represents a resource circulation and social contribution model that converts uniforms destined for disposal into merchandise while sharing the profits.
The first and second rounds of upcycled uniform merchandise, including neck warmers and card cases totaling eight items, received favorable responses.
Tuntun Bear is available for purchase at Shop SRT in Suseo Station, the online Koiro Shop, and Social Rail, a railway merchandise platform.
"We hope this becomes an ESG model that combines resource circulation with sharing," said Jeong Wang-kuk, CEO of SR.
