The Korea Exchange activated a circuit breaker on the KOSPI market as the benchmark index extended its intraday losses.
According to the Korea Exchange, the circuit breaker was triggered at approximately 10:31 a.m. on the 9th. This marks the second activation in three trading days, following the previous trigger on the 4th of this month. The sharp decline came after a sell-side sidecar was activated earlier in the session. A circuit breaker halts all market trading for 20 minutes when an index falls 8% or more from the previous day's closing price for at least one minute.
As of 10:40 a.m., the KOSPI stood at 5,132.07, down 452.80 points (8.11%) from the previous trading day. The index opened at 5,265.37, already down 319.50 points (5.72%) from the prior close, before extending its losses.
