The Korean government is launching a coalition of public institutions, private companies, and investors to achieve growth-oriented carbon neutrality. The alliance will serve as a public-private policy communication channel to foster the climate tech industry.
The Ministry of SMEs and Startups and the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment jointly held the inauguration ceremony of the "Climate Tech Innovation Alliance" at D.Camp in Mapo on the afternoon of the 4th. The alliance comprises 7 public institutions, 12 startups, 2 venture capital firms, and 3 private sector experts—24 participants in total.
Key climate tech innovators, public institution officials, and investment industry representatives attended the ceremony to discuss policy directions for nurturing the climate tech industry.
Policy ideas discussed will be refined through regular meetings across five sectors: Clean Tech, Carbon Tech, Eco Tech, Food Tech, and Geo Tech. The alliance will also develop concrete measures including expanded funding support through dedicated climate tech funds, establishment of demonstration clusters for major climate technologies, and preemptive regulatory reforms to drive innovation.
The Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment plans to incorporate proposals on financial investment, technology support, and institutional improvements into a comprehensive "Climate Tech Industry Development Plan." The ministry will maintain ongoing communication with the alliance throughout implementation.
"Climate tech startups are key players driving both carbon neutrality and future industrial competitiveness," said Han Sung-sook, Minister of SMEs and Startups. "We will work closely with the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment to quickly resolve field-level difficulties and enhance full-cycle support systems—from early-stage startups to overseas expansion—so that climate tech can become Korea's new growth engine."
Kim Sung-hwan, Minister of Climate, Energy and Environment, said, "Climate tech is the technology that will lead decarbonized green civilization. We will establish foundations for rapid demonstration and deployment of innovative ideas from climate tech companies, strengthen administrative and financial support for stable business growth, and ensure climate tech becomes a core force in the green transition."
