Hyundai Motor and Kia launched the "MobED Alliance" and began domestic sales of their small mobility robot platform "MobED" at the 2026 Smart Factory & Automation World (AW 2026) held at COEX in Gangnam-gu, Seoul on Wednesday.
The MobED Alliance is a four-party cooperation framework involving Hyundai Motor and Kia's Robotics Lab, domestic parts suppliers, robot solution companies, and related organizations. Hyundai Motor and Kia's Robotics Lab provides the MobED platform development and core technology foundation, while 10 parts suppliers including Hyundai Transys and SL handle the production and supply of key components such as sensors, electronics, and batteries.
Five robot solution companies including LS Mtron Automation and Gaon Robotics are responsible for industry-customized service configuration and on-site deployment, while related organizations such as the Korea AI & Robotics Industry Association support demonstration and deployment environment development.
Through this alliance, Hyundai Motor and Kia plan to provide customer-tailored robotics solutions and build a sustainable robot ecosystem model. MobED can perform various functions including logistics delivery, patrol drone stations, and advertising signage by combining different "top modules" according to industry-specific demands.
At AW 2026, Hyundai Motor and Kia unveiled the mass-production model of MobED for the first time in Korea and conducted purchase consultations for businesses. "MobED, which has been recognized for its innovation on the global stage, has evolved into an even more advanced robot solution through this alliance," said Hyun Dong-jin, Vice President and Head of Hyundai Motor and Kia's Robotics Lab. "Together with our key partners, we will enhance the competitiveness of Korea's robot industry and lead the expansion of the physical AI ecosystem."
