Next-generation battery technologies including ultra-high energy density prismatic batteries, LFP (lithium iron phosphate)-based ESS, thermal runaway prevention materials, and supply chain-independent direct synthesis processes have been named winners of the InterBattery Awards 2026.
The Korea Battery Industry Association announced on the 3rd that it held the InterBattery Awards 2026 ceremony at Glad Hotel in Yeouido, Seoul, selecting 12 companies with outstanding technological achievement and innovation among exhibitors at InterBattery 2026.
In the battery category, major domestic companies demonstrated significant technological advances. LG Energy Solution's "JF2 DC LINK 5.0 Grid ESS" is a grid-scale product featuring chemically stable LFP-based composition and an all-in-one container structure. The product was recognized for enhancing competitiveness in power infrastructure ESS through SOC Calibration Free functionality and high-performance insulation design reflecting building energy efficiency standards.
SK On's "Prismatic On Vent Cell" is a structural innovation technology enabling flexible vent positioning in prismatic batteries. The technology drew attention for simultaneously improving battery system design flexibility and safety by applying controlled directional gas discharge during thermal runaway events.
Samsung SDI's "700Wh/L High-Energy Prismatic Battery" achieved an ultra-high energy density of 700Wh/L and maximum output of 4,000W—firsts for prismatic cells. The product applies advanced manufacturing methods including minimized component resistance and new material structures, while securing safety through No Thermal Propagation technology.
Startup Rumplier won for its "Domestic Lithium Iron Phosphate Battery," developing domestically-based LFP prismatic batteries and becoming the first in Korea to obtain KC certification.
In the materials category, EcoPro BM's "Supply Chain-Independent LFP Direct Synthesis Method" was selected. The technology synthesizes LFP by directly utilizing raw materials without precursor processing, achieving both process simplification and high performance.
LG Chem's "Thermal Runaway Delay Thermoplastics" was recognized as a next-generation material capable of withstanding temperatures above 1,200 degrees Celsius under high-pressure conditions for more than 10 minutes, effectively delaying flame and pressure propagation during thermal runaway. Eco&Dream's "Next-Generation 90+ High-Nickel Precursor" was evaluated as a core material for high-energy density batteries, featuring nickel content exceeding 90%. Solum Advanced Materials' "ESAR 10-Micrometer Stainless Foil" was recognized for commercializing ultra-thin 10μm stainless foil using Equal-channel angular rolling (ESAR) technology.
In the components category, FDC's "ESS Deflagration Pressure Relief Device" was selected. This safety device automatically opens at preset pressure levels to discharge explosion pressure externally when combustible gas explosions occur in ESS enclosures.
In the equipment category, Chinese equipment manufacturer Lead Intelligent Equipment won for its "Dry Electrode Mixing and Coating System." The solvent-free dry electrode process reduces energy consumption while ensuring compatibility with large-scale production lines. Jarvis's "Battery High-Speed CT Inline Inspector" improves both inspection speed and resolution by rotating X-ray sources to image internal defects. TW's "Ultra-High-Speed (0.2-second) Integrated (Notching + Stacking) Equipment" achieved 0.2-second cycle times, securing both productivity and quality stability in mass production environments.
Park Tae-sung, Executive Vice Chairman of the Korea Battery Industry Association, said, "InterBattery Awards 2026 confirmed achievements in ultra-high energy density and safety technologies essential for the AI and robotics era, ESS and LFP technology independence, and next-generation process technologies for cost innovation." He added, "We expect InterBattery to strengthen its role as a platform leading economic security and global supply chain cooperation."
Award-winning products will be displayed at a special pavilion during InterBattery 2026, to be held at COEX in Seoul from the 11th to 13th of this month. This exhibition will be the largest ever, featuring 2,382 booths from 667 companies across 14 countries.
