A T'way Air passenger jet lost a wheel during landing in Taiwan, though no injuries were reported.
According to Taiwan's China Times and other outlets on the 9th, T'way Air flight TW687, a Boeing 737-800 departing from Jeju, lost its right wheel while landing at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport at approximately 3:52 p.m. the previous day.
The aircraft came to a safe stop two minutes after the incident, and all passengers and crew were reported unharmed. The airport closed its north runway for inspection to check for surface damage and manage the situation.
During the runway closure, three aircraft in flight declared "Mayday" and requested priority landing due to fuel shortages. All three landed safely under air traffic control guidance.
A total of 14 flights experienced departure or arrival delays due to the closure. Normal operations resumed at approximately 5:35 p.m., about one hour and 40 minutes after the shutdown.
"The tire appears to have detached during the bridge transit after landing," a T'way Air official said. "We are investigating the cause and continuing thorough inspections and maintenance to ensure safe aircraft operations."
