Songwon Cultural Foundation, a subsidiary of Dongkuk Steel (460860) Group, held the "23rd Songwon Scholarship Certificate Award Ceremony" at Ferrum Tower, the company's headquarters in Euljiro, Seoul, on the 9th.
Songwon Cultural Foundation is a public interest foundation established by Dongkuk Steel Group in 1996. Its purpose is to return profits from business activities to local communities. In its early years, the foundation supported underprivileged students primarily in Busan. Since 2004, it has selected and supported outstanding science and engineering students nationwide. The foundation has produced 492 scholarship recipients to date, with cumulative scholarship funds totaling approximately 4.1 billion won. Among the talents cultivated through the scholarship program, 26 are currently employed at Dongkuk Steel Group.
A total of 20 students were selected as the 23rd class of Songwon scholars. The foundation provides full tuition for four semesters covering junior and senior years. It also covers registration fees for language tests and certification examinations. Scholars receive preferential treatment, including bonus points when applying for Dongkuk Steel Group's college graduate recruitment or junior employee positions.
On the day of the ceremony, Songwon scholars had lunch with mentor scholars currently working at Dongkuk Steel Group before attending the award ceremony together. At the ceremony, the scholarship recipients shared their aspirations. Chairman Jang Se-wook then delivered words of encouragement and presented scholarship certificates. He joined the scholars for a "Ferrum Tower Tour," visiting smart office spaces at Dongkuk Steel and Dongkuk CM, as well as sections on the second and third floors featuring Luxteel applications. Scholars received small gifts including Luxteel mouse pads and hand warmers.
In his congratulatory remarks, Songwon Cultural Foundation Chairman Jang Se-wook said, "This is not simply about giving money, but about gifting 'time and space.' I hope you will take time to think more deeply, and that time will become your strongest competitive advantage." He added, "Do not waste your time. Experience more and dedicate yourselves to your dreams."
