Hallym University Medical Center has become the first medical institution in Korea to simultaneously achieve the highest certification grades in both medical data "content" and "management system" categories.
The medical center announced on December 31 that it received the top data content certification grade of "Complex-Type A" and the highest data management system certification grade of "Level 5" from CAS, a data quality certification body designated by the Ministry of Science and ICT, on December 22.
Data quality certification is divided into two categories: "data content" and "data management system." CAS reviewed approximately 570 million records from Hallym's cancer baseline database and lung cancer library data before awarding the highest grade in the data content category. Type certification evaluates both data quality and data structural complexity. Hallym University Medical Center achieved a 99.76% accuracy rate, exceeding the 99% threshold for the A grade. This demonstrates a very high level of consistency and reliability among data, and is expected to significantly enhance the utility of precise clinical research and data-based analysis.
For data quality management, the institution received "satisfactory" ratings across all 111 evaluation criteria, earning the highest level of data management system certification. Data management system certification evaluates 18 standards covering data standards, quality management, structure, integration, and overall operational processes, assigning grades from Level 1 to Level 5. Level 5 is extremely difficult to achieve as it includes evaluation of "innovation," making Hallym University Medical Center the only medical institution in Korea to obtain this grade.
Since 2022, Hallym University Medical Center has been participating in the "K-CURE" clinical data network project led by the National Cancer Center. The K-CURE project aims to build high-quality public-private linked data by standardizing public and clinical data across 10 cancer types. The medical center expects that its database will combine with public cancer libraries to serve as core infrastructure for cancer research and precision medicine advancement.

"Building on our participation in the 'Medical Data-Centered Hospital Support Project' and the 'K-CURE Clinical Data Network Construction Project,' we will create a sharing ecosystem that connects fragmented data and transform into a 'performance-generating data system' that can immediately deploy refined, high-quality data for research and clinical applications."
