Busan Port Authority (BPA) announced Wednesday that it has obtained ISO 50001 certification, an international standard for energy management systems.
ISO 50001 is an international standard designed to help organizations systematically manage energy use while continuously pursuing energy efficiency improvements and greenhouse gas reductions. The standard covers all processes from establishing energy policies to setting goals, implementation, monitoring, and improvement.
To obtain the certification, BPA has been progressively implementing measures including analysis of energy usage patterns, establishment of energy performance indicators, development of monitoring and management procedures, and employee awareness training.
The port authority is also pursuing various decarbonization and energy initiatives, particularly supporting electrification of cargo handling equipment and expanding renewable energy facilities within the port.
BPA plans to use this certification to advance its policies into a more systematic and sustainable energy management framework.
"We will continue to realize a sustainably growing Busan Port through energy efficiency optimization and fulfill our social responsibility as a global port," BPA President Song Sang-keun said.
