Samsung Biologics (207940.KS), which posted record earnings since its founding, has set its excess profit incentive (OPI, formerly PS) to be paid in January at 50% of annual salary, according to industry sources. The bonus level represents the maximum ceiling under Samsung's flagship incentive program and has become a hot topic among employees.
According to industry sources on Thursday, Samsung Biologics CEO John Rim sent an email to employees earlier this week notifying them of this year's OPI payment criteria. The excess profit incentive is paid when each business unit's performance exceeds targets set at the beginning of the year, with annual payments of up to 50% of individual salary within 20% of excess profits. Final confirmation and payment are expected in January next year.
Samsung Biologics paid bonuses equivalent to half of annual salary earlier this year as well, following similar payouts last year. The consecutive maximum bonuses reflect the company's rapid growth with record-breaking results year after year, industry observers say.
Last year, the company recorded consolidated revenue of 4.5473 trillion won and operating profit of 1.3201 trillion won, achieving both record earnings and order performance. Samsung Biologics was the first domestic pharmaceutical and biotech company to surpass 4 trillion won in annual revenue.
Growth has continued this year. Samsung Biologics posted consolidated revenue of 1.6602 trillion won and operating profit of 728.8 billion won in the third quarter, marking its highest quarterly performance since founding. On a cumulative third-quarter basis, the company recorded revenue of approximately 4.2484 trillion won and operating profit of 1.6911 trillion won. Annual revenue is widely expected to exceed 5 trillion won.
Order performance has also reached record levels. Cumulative orders this year totaled $4.761 billion (approximately 6.8190 trillion won), up 26.1% from last year's annual orders of 5.4035 trillion won.
Despite an uncertain external environment including U.S. tariff pressures, the company has further solidified its position in the global contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) market by signing a series of major contracts with large global pharmaceutical companies, according to industry assessments.
