Chong Kun Dang is selling "Benfobel S," a high-dose activated vitamin that is the first in Korea to contain both mecobalamin, a treatment ingredient for peripheral neuropathy, and 60mg of ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA), a liver function improvement ingredient, in a single tablet.
During winter, when immunity tends to weaken due to cold weather and health management requires extra attention, one tablet a day can help consumers evenly intake the vitamin components the body needs while aiding fatigue recovery and physical stamina enhancement.
The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety revised the standard manufacturing guidelines for pharmaceuticals last year, adding new ingredients available for over-the-counter drugs and expanding the maximum daily allowable amounts for existing ingredients. As a result, the upper limits for certain nutritional components including activated vitamins were adjusted, allowing consumers to choose higher-dose vitamin products.
Benfobel S reflects these revised standard manufacturing guidelines by significantly increasing the dosage compared to previous products. The company strengthened the vitamin B group compared to existing products and added ingredients effective for physical fatigue and liver function improvement.
The product also includes 500μg of mecobalamin, an ingredient previously prescribed only as a prescription drug for treating peripheral neuropathy by regenerating damaged nerve cells. In addition to 100mg of the activated vitamin benfotiamine, it contains 30mg of bisbentiamine, which crosses the blood-brain barrier to help with energy metabolism in the brain.
Furthermore, the content of ursodeoxycholic acid, known as a drug that promotes bile secretion and protects liver cells, was raised to 60mg, the maximum level under vitamin standard manufacturing guidelines. Beyond these ingredients, the product also contains taurine, methionine, and orotic acid to help recover from physical fatigue caused by decreased liver function.
"Benfobel S is a product that supplements vitamin B group, which modern people tend to lack due to stress, drinking, smoking, and nutritional imbalance, along with ingredients that help strengthen liver function, all in one tablet a day," a company official said. "We expect Benfobel S, which maximizes fatigue recovery effects through enhanced ingredients and dosages, to receive positive responses in the continuously growing high-dose activated vitamin market."
