Following "Battery Dad," a story about protecting the family, the tale of "Battery Mom" is being produced as a family musical.
NHN Link said on the 6th that it will stage the family musical "Battery Mom" from January 2 to February 28, 2027, at the Youngsan Theater in the ECC of Ewha Womans University in Seoul.
"Battery Mom" is based on the picture book of the same name by authors Jeon Seung-bae and Kang In-sook, which has been loved as both a picture book and an animation. NHN Link previously produced the original "Battery Dad" as a family musical, presenting its premiere last year and an encore performance this year. Buoyed by audience response, the company decided to produce a second installment in the series.
The new work brings the imagination and warm sensibility of the original to life through stage effects and music. It alternates between the daily lives of Dong-gu's mother, a daycare teacher, and the "Battery Mom" who works for children in unseen places, portraying the love and devotion of mothers who quietly protect everyday life alongside their families.
The original "Battery Mom" is a work widely known to children and parents, having been included in the third-grade second-semester Korean language textbook under the 2022 revised curriculum.
Oh Sun-hwa, a manager at NHN Link who serves as producer, said, "'Battery Mom' is not simply a sequel to 'Battery Dad,' but a work that captures the love of brave mothers who protect the family's daily life in unseen places." She added, "I hope it will be a time for children to feel their parents' love and for parents to warmly reflect on their own lives."
Ahead of the performance's opening, NHN Link is also holding auditions for all roles. The casting call is for Dong-gu's mother, Battery Mom, Dong-gu, and multi-roles, with document submissions accepted from August 5 until midnight on the 16th.
