On Thursday the 16th, monsoon rains will fall mainly across the Chungcheong region, southern areas, and Jeju Island, while a heat wave grips the Gyeongsang region.
Rain that begins in the Jeolla region and Jeju Island from the morning will expand to the southern Chungcheong region and the northwestern inland areas of South Gyeongsang from the night.
Expected rainfall is 20-60mm in Daejeon, southern South Chungcheong, and southern North Chungcheong; 30-80mm in North Jeolla, Gwangju, and South Jeolla; 30-80mm in Busan, Ulsan, and South Gyeongsang; and 5-30mm on Jeju Island.
In most regions across the country, the maximum feels-like temperature will rise to around 31°C. South Gyeongsang will reach around 33°C, while North Gyeongsang and the Gangwon east coast will climb to around 35°C, continuing the scorching heat. In some areas, overnight lows will remain above 25°C, producing tropical nights.
The heat wave advisories issued the previous day for the Gangwon mountainous areas and east coast, the Gyeongsang region, and Jeju Island are expected to be lifted or eased in some areas due to the day's rain. However, with high humidity keeping the feels-like temperature elevated, caution is needed against heat-related illnesses.
The morning low was forecast at 20-26°C and the daytime high at 28-37°C.
Sea waves are expected to reach 0.5-1.5m in the coastal waters of the East Sea and South Sea, and 0.5-1.0m in the coastal waters of the West Sea. Waves in the inner far seas (far seas within about 200km of the coastline) are forecast at 0.5-2.5m in the East Sea, 0.5-1.5m in the West Sea, and 0.5-2.0m in the South Sea.
