Hyundai Motor (005380.KS) launched the 2027 Nexo, a hydrogen-electric vehicle with expanded standard features and optional items, on the 14th. The Nexo drew attention after appearing in a Netflix variety program featuring comedian Yoo Jae-suk.
The core of this model year change is enhancing the marketability of the Modern trim, the lowest price tier. Some features previously offered only in higher trims have been applied as standard, and convenience and safety items that customers can add have also been expanded.
First, the Modern trim comes standard with a 100W USB charging cable. Roof racks and synthetic leather seats with patches, previously available only in the Exclusive Special trim, have also been added as standard items.
Optional driver assistance features have also been expanded. Modern trim customers can select Hyundai SmartSense, which includes Built-in Cam 2 Plus and augmented reality navigation, as well as Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist and Highway Driving Assist 2.
Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist includes functions such as detection of cross-traffic vehicles, oncoming vehicles when overtaking, and vehicles approaching from the side, as well as evasive steering assist.
The "Comfort Plus" package, which bundles power seats for the driver and front passenger and first-row ventilated seats, is also offered as an optional feature for the Modern trim.
The top-tier Prestige trim has newly added a rear-seat smart entertainment system. Rear-seat passengers can use various streaming content, including YouTube, Netflix, and U+ children's programs, through a 14.6-inch FHD touchscreen.
Reflecting tax benefits, the 2027 Nexo is priced at 76.47 million won for the Modern, 79.37 million won for the Exclusive, and 83.79 million won for the Prestige.
The actual purchase price can be significantly lowered depending on regional subsidies. Adding the government subsidy of 22.5 million won and the Seoul city subsidy of 7 million won, the Modern trim can be purchased in the 40 million won range.
In Jeju, where local government subsidies reach up to 17 million won, the actual purchase price of the Modern trim falls to the 30 million won range.
The Nexo is an eco-friendly vehicle that runs on electricity generated by the chemical reaction between hydrogen and oxygen in the air. Based on the Exclusive trim fitted with 18-inch tires, it can travel up to 720 km on a single charge.
Last May, it also drew public attention when it appeared in the Netflix variety show "Yoo Jae-suk Camp."
"The 2027 Nexo strengthens the marketability of the entry trim to further broaden customer choice," a Hyundai Motor official said. "Through Nexo Easy Start, we hope more customers will experience the appeal of hydrogen-electric vehicles."
