Youn Yuh-jung Earns Emmy Nomination for Best Supporting Actress

Actress Youn Yuh-jung has been nominated for an Emmy Award, the most prestigious honor in American television.

U.S. entertainment outlet Deadline reported that Youn was nominated in the category of Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie, according to the list of nominees for the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards announced by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (ATAS) on the 8th.

Youn played Chairman Park, a billionaire Korean who newly acquired a country club, in Season 2 of the Netflix series "Beef." Her on-screen pairing with special guest star Song Kang-ho (Dr. Kim) as a couple in which the wife is older drew significant attention.

Youn became the first Korean actor to win an Oscar with the 2021 film "Minari." If she wins the Emmy this time, she would set yet another new record.

In 2022, Lee Jung-jae, the lead actor of the "Squid Game" series, won the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor.

"Beef" Season 2, directed by Korean American filmmaker Lee Sung Jin and partly filmed in Korea, also picked up a large number of Emmy nominations on the same day.

The series was nominated for Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series, the equivalent of best picture, as well as in multiple other categories including Outstanding Lead Actress (Carey Mulligan), Outstanding Lead Actor (Oscar Isaac), Outstanding Supporting Actor (Charles Melton), Outstanding Casting, Outstanding Contemporary Costumes, Outstanding Directing, and Outstanding Editing.

Among them, supporting actor nominee Charles Melton is an actor of mixed Korean heritage.

"Beef" swept eight awards with its first season in 2024, including best series and both lead actor and lead actress honors. At the time, Korean American actor Steven Yeun drew attention by winning the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor.

Meanwhile, the 78th Emmy Awards ceremony will be held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on September 14.
