The Asia Culture Center (ACC) under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism said Tuesday that two performances created in collaboration with domestic and international arts institutions will be staged consecutively in France and Taiwan this week.
The first work is the contemporary dance piece "1℃" (choreographed by Heo Sung-im), co-produced by the ACC and the Seoul Performing Arts Festival (SPAF). After premiering at the Seoul Performing Arts Festival last October and successfully completing a tour of three theaters in the United Kingdom in November, the work will be staged six times from July 5 to 11 as part of the official invitation program (IN) of the "80th Avignon Festival" in France.
Notably, this year's Avignon Festival has selected "Korean" as its official Guest Language for the first time as an Asian language and as a single national language rather than a multinational common language.
Following this, a large-scale international co-production project embodying the solidarity and coexistence of Asian arts will also reach Taiwanese audiences. The second performance of "Remapping Asia," launched to commemorate the ACC's 10th anniversary, will be held from July 10 to 12 at the Experimental Theater of Taiwan's National Theater and Concert Hall.
Co-produced by the ACC and Taiwan's National Theater and Concert Hall, the project is an "Asian Directors Trilogy" performance themed on shared concerns across Asia. Three leading directors from Korea, Thailand and Taiwan each created one work for the production, which successfully premiered at the ACC last November.
"We will continue to pursue international co-productions and the expansion of overseas distribution networks so that the ACC's original content can reach not only Asia but stages around the world," said Kim Sang-wook, director of the Asia Culture Center.
