The film "Assassin(s)," which has drawn attention with its star-studded cast including "10-million-ticket actor" Yoo Hae-jin, along with Park Hae-il and Lee Min-ho, confirmed its release for this Chuseok holiday and unveiled two launch posters on the 30th.
The launch posters captivate with the striking copy "August 15, 1974, the First Lady Sniper Incident." A black-and-white stage seen beyond a resolute hand gripping a pistol evokes a moment of explosive tension, while the plural title contrasting with the single figure in the poster hints at suspicions that still linger behind the official record, heightening curiosity.
"Assassin(s)" depicts a story tracing the suspicions and the masterminds behind the First Lady sniper incident that shocked South Korea on August 15, 1974.
Based on the First Lady sniper incident broadcast live nationwide on Liberation Day in 1974, the film "Assassin(s)" is a mystery-tracking drama that adds cinematic imagination to the remaining records and the questions that remain unresolved to this day. It is drawing particular attention as the first film adaptation of a true story that, despite being one of the most shocking events in South Korea's modern history, has never been addressed until now.
Director Hur Jin-ho, who has delicately explored characters and events across eras and genres in works such as "The Last Princess," "Forbidden Dream," and "Christmas in August," took the helm. In this work as well, Director Hur is set to draw audiences into a powerful story, delivering both tension and a lingering, intense aftertaste.
In particular, the perfect acting ensemble of top actors such as Yoo Hae-jin—who has appeared in five 10-million-ticket films, including "The Man Standing Next," which ranked second at the box office of all time—along with Park Hae-il and Lee Min-ho, is expected to maximize the film's immersion.
Yoo Hae-jin plays Cheol-gu, a detective who was in charge of security at the scene of the incident. He is set to anchor the film as he grows suspicious of the investigation headquarters' announcement, which conflicts with what he witnessed at the scene, and digs into the truth of the case following his detective's instincts.
Park Hae-il plays Jae-hwan, the head of a newspaper's social affairs desk. In this work, he is set to portray a veteran reporter who, with a professional sense of mission and sharp insight, approaches the truth of the case despite intense pressure.
Lee Min-ho, who continues to demonstrate his enduring popularity by being named the No. 1 "Most Influential Hallyu Star" every year, plays Yeong-il, a rookie reporter who covers the scene of the incident. Yeong-il, brimming with a rookie reporter's spirit and tenacious reporting drive, is a character who boldly throws himself into danger to find the truth of the case, and attention is focused on the new acting transformation Lee Min-ho will show.
The lineup of the nation's top-tier production team is also noteworthy. HiveMediaCorp, which has depicted South Korea's modern history with overwhelming narratives in works such as "12.12: The Day" and "The Man Standing Next," took charge of production, and cinematographer Lee Mo-gae and lighting director Lee Seong-hwan, who showed perfect teamwork in "12.12: The Day," "Exhuma," and "Hunt," team up once again.
