The Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA) has moved to expand global distribution by supporting the overseas entry of broadcast and video content works that received domestic production funding.
KOCCA held "2026 KOCCA on Screen" in Udine, Italy, Los Angeles in the United States, and Taipei, Taiwan, from April through June, the agency said Monday. The event featured 20 small and mid-sized Korean production companies that received broadcast and video content production support between 2021 and 2025.
During the event, a total of 293 export consultations were held with buyers from Europe, the Americas, and Greater China, with consultations valued at approximately $33.82 million. Actual contracts reached 35, worth about $2.78 million.
"KOCCA on Screen" is a program that does not stop at the production support stage but connects works to distribution and commercialization through overseas screenings and business consultations. This year, the program focused on building cooperative networks in Europe, expanding contracts in North America, and identifying intellectual property (IP) commercialization potential in Greater China, in line with the market characteristics of each region.
In Europe, KOCCA presented seven dramas and documentaries in partnership with the Udine Far East Film Festival, with 32 companies from 13 countries participating to discuss co-productions and distribution cooperation.
In North America, KOCCA held a showcase and consultation session alongside the "LA Screenings," discussing rights sales, co-production, format exports, and investment plans with global media companies including Paramount, Warner Bros., and Fox. During this period, 124 consultations took place, with consultations valued at approximately $27.91 million.
In Taiwan, a total of 84 consultations were held through local screenings and export consultation sessions. A survey of local viewers found a 95.6% favorability rating toward Korean content and a 97.8% intention to recommend it, while the local industry showed strong interest in IP expansion businesses such as artificial intelligence (AI)-based short-form content, webtoon adaptations, remakes, and co-productions.
Jeon Woo-young, a division head at KOCCA, said, "We will strengthen our support system so that production-supported works can lead to actual distribution and commercialization in overseas markets, thereby raising the global competitiveness of K-content."
