The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) said Wednesday that it had appointed Yoon Sung-cheon, 58, former head of the ministry's Culture and Arts Policy Office, as the new president of the Korea Copyright Protection Agency and presented him with a letter of appointment. The new president's term is three years.
Yoon graduated from Korea University with a degree in business administration, earned a master's degree from the Graduate School of Public Administration at Seoul National University, and completed a doctoral program at the Graduate School of Technology Management at Hoseo University. At the MCST, he served as director of the Copyright Industry Division, director general of the Copyright Bureau, and head of the Culture and Arts Policy Office, as well as on secondment to the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). He is regarded as an expert with extensive expertise in culture, arts, and copyright policy, along with organizational management experience.
The Korea Copyright Protection Agency is a specialized copyright protection institution that responds to copyright infringement occurring at home and abroad through monitoring, copyright protection deliberation, and support for copyright crime investigations.
"The Korea Copyright Protection Agency must innovate as the frontline institution responding to the illegal distribution of content at home and abroad," MCST Minister Choi Hwi-young said. "I expect the new president to lead the innovation of the copyright protection system based on his expertise and capabilities in copyright policy."
