The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism said Wednesday it has appointed Kim Yoon-ji, 53, a senior research fellow at the Export-Import Bank of Korea's Institute for International Trade and Cooperation, as the new president of the Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA). The new president's term is three years.
Kim graduated from Seoul National University with a degree in anthropology, then completed master's and doctoral programs in economics at the same university. After working as a reporter for the Hankyoreh newspaper, she joined the Export-Import Bank of Korea in 2009. Working at the Institute for International Trade and Cooperation, she participated in numerous studies and government policy advisory activities related to the content industry, including "Research on the Economic Effects of K-Content Exports" and "Plans to Build Financial Infrastructure for the Global Expansion of Content Companies." Her published works include "Hallyu Oejeon," "Hallyunomics," and "Squid Game and the Content Revolution."
The position of KOCCA president had been vacant for nearly two years after former president Cho Hyun-rae stepped down upon the expiration of his term in September 2014.
Culture Minister Choi Hwi-young said, "This is a critical moment when K-content must expand beyond global success into K-culture to lay the foundation for sustainable growth." He added, "We hope the new president will boost the competitiveness of 'K-culture' based on her expertise and insight into the content industry, and lead a new leap forward."
