Seoul National University Bundang Hospital said Wednesday it has built and launched a data-based admission management system called "SNUH WARD GUIDE," which automates bed assignment for patients waiting to be admitted.
SNUH WARD GUIDE analyzes hospital data in real time to support optimal decision-making across overall inpatient bed operations, including inpatient management, available bed lookup, and bed operation monitoring.
Previously, staff had to manually check the priority of hundreds of patients waiting for admission. The new system automatically calculates the admission ranking of waiting patients by department by combining admission-related information such as waiting days and scheduled surgery dates. With this adoption, the point at which patients are notified of assignment results has been moved up by more than 30 minutes compared with before. Available beds are matched in real time against each patient's admission reservation information, allowing lookups by room grade and ward. From these, the most suitable bed for the patient is presented along with a recommendation ranking. In addition, bed-by-bed changes such as availability conversion status and the status of admissions, discharges, room transfers, and bed transfers can be checked in real time on a single screen. For staff, communication needed for inter-department verification procedures is reduced, while for patients, follow-up measures such as treatment plan adjustments can be carried out quickly.
The hospital expects that it will be able to provide further improved admission services by simultaneously solving the two tasks of shortening admission notification time and strengthening bed operation efficiency.
Jeon Young-tae, director of Seoul National University Bundang Hospital, said, "SNUH WARD GUIDE is a starting point for improving patients' admission experience and bed operations on a data-based foundation," adding, "Going forward, we will continuously develop a patient-tailored bed management system by incorporating artificial intelligence (AI) and big data analysis technology."
