The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (Minister Choi Hwi-young) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Minister Cho Hyun) announced on the 4th that they will host a K-Culture festival in Mexico throughout June to mark the 2026 FIFA World Cup, jointly organized with the Korean Embassy in Mexico (Ambassador Lee Ju-il) and the Korean Cultural Center in Mexico (Director Min Su-i).
The festival will be held under the themes of "Connected by Passion" (Pasion que Une), "Connected by Light" (Luz que Une), "Connected by Gaze" (Miradas que Unen), and "Connected by Rhythm" (Ritmos que Unen), featuring a wide range of cultural programs including media facade displays, contemporary art exhibitions, traditional Korean performances, and K-pop cover dance events.
In Mexico, the embassy, cultural center, and the Korea Tourism Organization's local office will lead the events, introducing content that spans both Korea's traditional and contemporary culture while broadening exchange and mutual understanding between the two countries.
Mexico is one of the key hubs for the Korean Wave's expansion across Latin America, with steadily growing interest in Korean culture across daily life, including K-pop, dramas, beauty, and food.
Meanwhile, with the South Korean national football team set to play all three of its group-stage matches in Mexico (two in Guadalajara, Jalisco, and one in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon) at the upcoming North American World Cup, local interest in K-Culture is expected to rise even further.
