The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization will host a "DMZ Peace Trail Walking" event on the 26th course of the DMZ Peace Trail in Yanggu County, Gangwon Province, on the 12th, the agencies said on the 2nd.
The event aims to highlight the value of the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), an experience unique to the Korean Peninsula, and to promote walking tourism. The 26th course of the DMZ Peace Trail includes Duta Falls, a representative ecotourism site within the Civilian Control Line. Duta Falls, known for its clear valley and pristine natural scenery, is also referred to as "the road to Mount Kumgang." This marks the first time a large group will walk the DMZ Peace Trail together.
About 1,000 participants will walk the course for approximately 90 minutes before receiving a completion medal. Singer Sean will also join the walk. After the event, participants can choose to visit either the Yanggu Porcelain Museum or the Park Soo-keun Museum.
Registration is available through the Durunubi website and the official Instagram account. Any member of the public interested in walking the DMZ crossing route of the Korea Dulle-gil can participate for free.
The Tourism Sciences Society of Korea and footwear brand Le Mouton are participating as official sponsors. The Tourism Sciences Society of Korea will support students from tourism-related departments in attending the event to experience security tourism and ecotourism firsthand. Le Mouton will select 50 participants who post their walking experience on social media on the day of the event and present them with its flagship "Mate" product.
"This is an opportunity to feel the value of the Korea Dulle-gil at the DMZ, a place uniquely Korean," said Kim Kwang-sik, head of the regional development planning team at the Korea Tourism Organization. "We look forward to the participation of many citizens."
