Kyung Hee University Hospital said Thursday it has established an advanced precision medicine system based on genetic analysis, in line with the recent expansion and opening of its Cancer Genetics and Genetic Counseling Clinic.
The newly introduced AVITI24 is a cutting-edge system that supports high-resolution genomic analysis and can be expanded to single-cell and spatial multi-omics research in the future. Multi-omics refers to an approach that comprehensively identifies the causes and mechanisms of diseases by integrating and analyzing diverse biological data involved in life phenomena, including genomes, proteomes and metabolomes.
The hospital's clinical laboratory became the first in Korea to obtain in-vitro diagnostic certification from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) for AVITI24-based germline variant testing, equipping itself for full-scale clinical application. The achievement is considered significant in that the hospital has been officially recognized for its testing reliability and quality control capabilities meeting national agency standards, beyond simply introducing high-performance equipment.
"We have improved the diagnostic accuracy for rare and hereditary diseases whose causes were difficult to identify with conventional analysis methods, and through advanced analytical infrastructure, we can now organically link diverse pathological information to clinical practice and research," said Cho Sun-young, professor of laboratory medicine and department chief at Kyung Hee University Hospital. "Going beyond fragmented interpretation centered on single-gene variants, we will set the standard for next-generation medicine that understands diseases more precisely and connects them to patient-tailored care."
The recently opened Cancer Genetics and Genetic Counseling Clinic at Kyung Hee University Hospital provides integrated care covering diagnosis, testing, result interpretation and customized family counseling for various genetic disorders, including cancer and rare diseases. Through this, the hospital plans to lead the realization of next-generation precision medicine and further strengthen its precision medicine capabilities centered on early diagnosis and prevention.
"The introduction of AVITI24 will be a turning point that dramatically advances the hospital's precision diagnostic capabilities, next-generation advanced medical services and genomic research capabilities," said Kim Jong-woo, president of Kyung Hee University Hospital. "Beyond simple testing, we will provide optimal customized medical services to each patient through an integrated care system organically linked to actual clinical practice."
