
The Asan Foundation will hold an academic symposium on "Social Welfare Innovation in the Age of Artificial Intelligence (AI)" at the Asan Institute for Policy Studies in Jongno-gu, Seoul, on the 28th to mark its 49th anniversary, the foundation said Wednesday.
The symposium will feature presentations by three scholars selected as outstanding researchers under the Asan Foundation's 2025 academic research grant program: Hwang Kwang-sun, professor of public administration at Gachon University; Kim Hyun-jung, professor at Dong-A University's Graduate School of International Studies; and Oh Young-sam, professor of social welfare at Pukyong National University. They will present on the ethical issues and limitations of AI-based social welfare, the adoption of AI in welfare administration and its policy outcomes through cases in Estonia and the United Kingdom, and the scope to which AI can substitute for social welfare services, respectively.
A discussion session will follow, chaired by Park Jung-soo, vice president for research and external affairs at Ewha Womans University and professor of public administration. The panel will include Kim Hyung-yong, professor of social welfare at Dongguk University; Kim Soo-young, professor of social welfare at Seoul National University; Jin Hyo-jin, professor of computer science and engineering at Gyeongsang National University; and Oh Sun-jung, professor of public administration at Chonnam National University.
The Asan Foundation has held an annual academic symposium addressing major social welfare issues in Korean society every year since 1979.
