Kakao Entertainment will unveil the "Global-K Chart" in June in partnership with Melon, China's Tencent Music Entertainment (Tencent Music), and Japan's LINE Music.
According to Kakao Entertainment on Wednesday, Melon began rolling out an "Artist Relay Celebration Video" series from Wednesday morning, featuring NCT leader Taeyong, LE SSERAFIM, ALPHA DRIVE ONE, and AND2BLE, to build anticipation ahead of the chart's launch.
The "Global-K Chart" is the outcome of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed between Kakao Entertainment, Tencent Music, and LINE Music last December. The three companies agreed to integrate K-pop usage data across their respective platforms to build a global artist chart, and through the collaboration process, they confirmed the official launch for June.
The chart will be compiled based on usage data from major music platforms in core K-pop markets, including South Korea, China, and Japan. With "The Global K-POP Standard" as its slogan, the chart is expected to serve as a key indicator reflecting real-time global K-pop trends.
Melon has established itself as Korea's leading music platform over the past 22 years, laying the foundation for K-pop's growth. Tencent Music operates QQ Music, KUGOU, KUWO, and JOOX, which hold strong influence in China and Southeast Asia, while LINE Music provides music services linked to "LINE," Japan's most popular messenger. The plan is to combine the vast user data from the three platforms to deliver new value across the K-pop industry.
Ahead of the chart's debut, Melon plans to release celebration videos from various K-pop artists in sequence to sustain global fan engagement. Starting with Taeyong, messages from LE SSERAFIM, ALPHA DRIVE ONE, and AND2BLE will be released through Melon and its official social media channels.
"We expect the Global-K Chart to become the global benchmark that most precisely reflects K-pop trends," a Melon official said. "We will continue to communicate with K-pop fans around the world through various events before and after the launch."
