
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced that Minister Choi Hwi-young on Wednesday appointed Cha Jin-yub, 48, CEO and artistic director of Collective A, as the new director and artistic director of the Korea National Contemporary Dance Company, and presented her with the letter of appointment. The new director's term is three years.
Cha studied at the School of Dance at the Korea National University of Arts (K-Arts) and graduated from the London Contemporary Dance School in the United Kingdom. She currently serves as CEO and artistic director of Collective A. She has continued active creative work, including serving as choreography director for the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics, and has also dedicated herself to nurturing the next generation as an adjunct professor at K-Arts. She has been recognized for her artistry and creative capabilities, having received the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's "Today's Young Artist Award" and other honors.
Established in 2010, the Korea National Contemporary Dance Company is the country's only national contemporary dance organization, promoting performance creation and production as well as international exchange projects.
"With the rich experience and creative leadership that new director Cha Jin-yub has built on the ground as a dancer and choreographer, she is expected to lead the Korea National Contemporary Dance Company stably and contribute to expanding the base of contemporary dance and strengthening its international competitiveness," Minister Choi said, according to the ministry.
