BTS will meet Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum ahead of the group's concerts in Mexico City.
On the morning of November 6 local time, President Sheinbaum announced at her regular press briefing known as "La Mañanera" that BTS will visit the presidential office and greet citizens from its balcony. She also praised the group's music, saying it "always delivers messages of friendship, peace and love."
Sheinbaum had previously welcomed the confirmation of BTS's Mexico City concerts in January, calling it a "historic moment." She emphasized that local young fans had long been waiting for the performance, underscoring her strong interest in the group.
The visit is also drawing significant economic expectations. The Mexico City Chamber of Commerce projected that the concerts will generate an economic impact of approximately $107.5 million (155.7 billion won).
Data also confirms the high level of interest in BTS in Mexico. According to figures released last year by global audio and music streaming platform Spotify, Mexico is the fifth-largest K-pop market worldwide. Within that market, BTS was identified as the most-streamed artist by local K-pop fans. Their fourth studio album "MAP OF THE SOUL: 7," released in 2020, was selected as the most-played K-pop album in Mexico. Eight of the top 10 albums on that chart are BTS works. "Dynamite" topped the ranking of "most-streamed songs in Mexico since the K-pop boom," with BTS songs occupying seven of the top 10 spots on that chart as well.
According to local daily El Universal, Mexico City ranks as the city that streams BTS's music the most on Spotify, a measure of the group's unmatched influence in the local popular music market.
BTS will take the stage at Estadio GNP Seguros in Mexico City for a total of three performances on November 7 and 9-10. All three shows sold out immediately after tickets went on sale, demonstrating the group's formidable ticket power.
