Sejong Center for the Performing Arts will present the final stage of its "Harry Potter" film concert series. Sejong Center announced that it will stage "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows™ Part II in Concert" from May 15 to 17. The performance follows a film concert format, featuring a full screening of the movie accompanied by live orchestral music.
This performance marks the final installment of the "Harry Potter™ Film Concert Series," which has continued in Korea since its domestic premiere in 2019. As Sejong Center's signature production, the closing chapter of this series will be conducted by Shih-Hung Young, who has led the series throughout, bringing the grand journey to a close. The Seongnam Philharmonic Orchestra will perform. The music, composed by Academy Award-winning composer Alexandre Desplat, portrays the series' final battle through melodies that alternate between tension and lyricism.
The work is based on the conclusion of the original novel, which author J.K. Rowling spent a decade writing. Centered on the final showdown that determines the fate of the wizarding world, the film captures the confrontation between Harry Potter and Voldemort, along with moments of choice and sacrifice. It is regarded as the most emotionally dense work in the series. Combining film with live performance, the concert offers a high level of immersion. The recommended viewing age is 7 and older.
Audience participation programs have also been prepared ahead of the performance. Experiential content will run throughout the Gwanghwamun area. A "Harry Potter Pop-Up Zone" will be set up at Sejong Lounge inside Sejong Center from May 1 to 17, and a photo zone featuring poster wrapping will be installed on the central staircase.
Participatory events will be concentrated during the holiday period, which includes Children's Day and Labor Day. On-site verification events and online participation events will run simultaneously, along with merchandise sales. On Labor Day, an event will offer prizes to visitors who bring socks, while Children's Day will feature a face-painting program. A "Butterbeer Pop-Up," where visitors can sample the beverage from the film, will also run from May 3 to 17.
The "Harry Potter Film Concert Series" is a global performance project co-produced by Warner Bros. Discovery Global Themed Entertainment and CineConcerts. Since its premiere in 2016, it has been performed more than 3,000 times in 48 countries, drawing a cumulative audience of 3 million.
"As this is the final stage of the series, we have prepared a range of programs so that audiences can move beyond simply watching a performance and complete the journey through the Harry Potter universe together," a Sejong Center official said.
