The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism said Minister Choi Hwi-young on Tuesday appointed Kim Kyung-bae (59), a professor at Kyonggi University's Graduate School of Hallyu Culture, as the new president of the Korea Craft & Design Foundation and conferred the letter of appointment. The new president will serve a three-year term.
According to the ministry, Kim earned a master's degree in industrial design from the Royal College of Art in the United Kingdom and has built broad field experience over more than 30 years in the convergence of design and cultural content. He served as head of "Design Icon" and as vice president overseeing design at INNODESIGN Inc., accumulating hands-on expertise and organizational management capabilities. He currently serves as a professor at Kyonggi University's Graduate School of Hallyu Culture, working to expand the cultural content industry and nurture convergence talent for K-culture.
"The new president is an expert in the convergence of design and cultural content," Minister Choi said. "Based on his experience successfully leading various projects encompassing design, technology and culture, we expect him to drive innovation in utilizing and industrializing our cultural assets — including crafts, traditional culture and public design — and in advancing into global markets," the ministry said.
