Il-Yang Pharmaceutical has expanded the age range for its influenza vaccines to cover all age groups from 6 months of age and older.
The company announced Tuesday that its trivalent "Il-Yang Flu" and quadrivalent "Teratect" influenza vaccines received approval from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) for administration to children aged 6 months to under 3 years. With the approval, both the trivalent and quadrivalent formulations of Il-Yang Pharmaceutical's flu vaccines can now be administered to all age groups aged 6 months and older.
Korea's National Immunization Program (NIP) for influenza vaccines covers children aged 6 months to 13 years, pregnant women, and seniors aged 65 and older.
"Vaccines that were previously administered to children, adolescents, and adults aged 3 and older can now be given to infants aged 6 months to under 3 years as well," an Il-Yang Pharmaceutical official said. "We expect the volume of NIP supply contracts in the public sector to expand."
The company plans to actively pursue expansion in the domestic market and participate in international bidding going forward. To boost profitability and sales, Il-Yang Pharmaceutical has expanded its vaccine finished-product line, preemptively secured recommended strains for the Southern Hemisphere flu season, and established a production system capable of year-round operation.
