A man in his 60s who dedicated his life to his family without any hobbies has given new life to three people through organ donation after being declared brain-dead.
According to the Korea Organ Donation Agency on Monday, Jeong Chan-ho, 68, donated his liver and both kidneys before passing away at the Catholic University of Korea Uijeongbu St. Mary's Hospital on February 22.
Jeong lost consciousness and collapsed at a public bathhouse on February 19. He was rushed to the hospital but never regained consciousness and was declared brain-dead. His bereaved family decided to donate his organs, honoring his wish expressed during his lifetime that he "wanted to do something good when leaving this world."
According to the family, Jeong was born in Seoul as the second of three sons and was a diligent breadwinner who devoted his entire life to working for his family rather than pursuing any hobbies. He worked at an auto parts company for more than 20 years and, until recently, ran a milk distribution agency to support his family.
His wife, Jang In-hee, said with tears in her eyes, "It was only in the past year or two that he began to find some leisure by traveling with his friends. He was a man who only suffered, devoting himself to his family."
His son, Jeong Sang-gi, bid his final farewell, saying, "I will never forget the love you have shown by devoting yourself to our family all these years."
