SCL Group, which includes the Hanaro Medical Foundation, said Tuesday that it will sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on the 27th with Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM), a national hospital under Indonesia's Ministry of Health, to advance medical services.
Located in central Jakarta, Indonesia, RSCM has approximately 1,000 beds and treats more than 1 million patients annually. Under the agreement, the two institutions will pursue mid- to long-term exchange and cooperation across various fields, including precision diagnostics such as multi-cancer early screening and genetic testing, artificial intelligence (AI)-based early diagnosis solutions, and joint use of medical equipment such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computed tomography (CT).
Indonesia, the most populous country in Southeast Asia, is considered a nation with high growth potential in preventive medicine and precision diagnostics. Cooperation in the healthcare sector between the two countries has gained momentum following the recent visit of Indonesia's president to Korea.
SCL Group established a local subsidiary, "SCL Hanaro Indonesia (SHI)," in July last year, laying the foundation for its local business. The Hanaro Medical Foundation, a leading health checkup specialist in Korea, directly operates K-LAB, a Korean-style checkup center, in the country. K-LAB provides precision testing and Korean-style health checkup services through know-how accumulated in diagnostic testing and health checkups, along with advanced equipment and facilities, expanding its presence in the local medical market.
Lee Kyung-ryul, chairman of SCL Group, said, "Indonesia is a key base for entering the Southeast Asian medical market." He added, "Based on the diagnostic testing and health checkup capabilities we have built over a long period, we will strengthen cooperation with local medical institutions and spread the K-healthcare model."
