Director Park Hoon-jung's new film "Tristes Tropiques" received the Silver Raven Award, the jury special prize in the international competition section of the 44th Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival, distributor Finecut said Thursday. Held from the 4th to the 18th of this month, the Brussels festival is regarded as one of the world's most prestigious fantastic film festivals, alongside the Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival and the Fantasporto International Film Festival.
"Tristes Tropiques" was invited to the 58th Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival held last October and was the only Korean work to enter the international competition section of this year's Brussels festival. The film depicts the story of the children of a killer organization called "Tristes Tropiques." The organization was raised by "Sabu," the ruler of the rainforest, and the story unfolds as the children come to suspect one another and vow bloody revenge following an incident that shakes their very existence. Actor Kim Myung-min plays the role of Sabu, with Lee Shin-young and Park Yu-rim also appearing in the film. The movie is scheduled for domestic release after final post-production.
